Fan Memories - (2011–2008)

Back in the early 70's and 80's I had the biggest fan around. Sitting back with Sammy after the dance till 4 or 5 in the morning, sitting with Sammy in Floresville when he was a DJ at the radio station. In 82 I left for the military and did not return back until 2006. Hearing the other bands in the area brought back the Abbey memories. Well my girlfriend has always heard me talk about the ABBEY and the memories of dancing with my friends and enjoying good fun. Today my girlfriend had a surprise for me for my birthday and we drove to floresville. We were standing around and i not knowing what was going on the man walked up and introduced himself as Jerry the drummer from the Abby. He had with him 3 cd's a shirt and a cap. thanks for the memories. Thanks for the fun Sorry for the lose of Sammy what a great person and friend. Live long and keep playing I'll be there front row.

Wanted to say thanks to everyone that remembered my husband johnny turner at Sammy Morales funeral. It still hurts so bad, he was such a good person and I loved him so much. Losing Sammy on JT birthday was like the Lord planned it. I believe JT was waiting for him and greeted him with a smile on his face

I worked with Johnny at Grande and I sure do miss him. When he would walk by my desk he would knock on it and say "SMILE". He know The Abbey played at our wedding and kept me informed about the dance at the Floresville Peanut Festival. And when I saw him on stage singing with that smile I knew he was happy there at that moment. I will always remember seeing him smile. MISS YA JOHNNY

Though I was not around yet with the band In the 70's. My most recent memory of Johnny was when the band started playing reunions again 2 years ago.. I remember Johnny emailed me several times:) He was so excited to hear the guys wanted to play. He wanted to come to practice and wanted to know the plans of every show. His excitement gave me strength and made me appreciate the honor It Is to be a part of this family. It was a pleasure to know Johnny. Johnny loved the band and to know that the cds, website, and shows. Bought him happiness during his tough time.. That means more than words could explain.. God bless. Ryan~

Everybody has that special time in their life that they think, "Man, those were the days." For me, those days were 1975-1978 when every weekend we followed the Abbey's to the Golden Stallion, Lubianski's Hall, Poth, wherever. "Man, those were the days!" Thanks for the memories- guy's! I work with Sam now he was amazing as an Abbey and he is amazing as a friend and co-worker. My favorite 5: The Ballad of The Abbey, Before The Next Tear Drop Falls, Mathilda, Helpless, That's The Way Love Goes. Thanks Guys! Bobbie

Man, what a flashback!!!! I remember dancing to these guys in the 70's...when we were all much younger. I have two albums stashed somewhere...I think my brother Lynn has them. I DO know where my 8-tracks are. Glad to see them all still kicking. Jerry T. was one of my Band Instructors when I was in high school. I hope to be at the Peanut Festival this year (I live out-of-state and just broke ground on a new house).

I just wanted to say that I wasn't there physically Saturday night in St. Hedwig because of a recent surgery. I am living in Florida now, but I want you to know that I received some calls from Sharon Shuler, BJ, and my brother Dickie while they were at the dance and I cried my eyes out. I will be there in March as soon as I know the date so I can make my plane reservations. I won't miss that one!!!

Missed K-Town. I will be there there at Lubianski come Hell or high water. It's amazing how life is one big circle. We danced to the Abbey for yeasrs. Now we get that chance again. Jerry even taught my son at Kitty Hawk. What a shock that was to see one of the Abbey teaching. I guess we all change. I am now School Board President of Judson. The same school that I would fight with at St. Hedwig. WELCOME BACK ABBEY, WELCOME BACK!!!!!

Tuesday, June 6, 2006 @ 3:46 pm

We had a great time. Y'all can still rock. I think that's the first time Chuck has stayed out past 10 o'clock in 20 years. He wouldn't have missed one minute of it for anything. He says his feelings are still hurt though because he didn't get to get on stage and play the sax with you. We're looking forward to November 11th. Steve Koehler will be back in town from Kuwait and will be joining us.

A Nut Gorzell
Monday, June 5, 2006 @ 2:42 pm

Well I used the name "A NUT" I was given by "my" brother Sammy. He has always and will always be a special part of my life. His wife or shall I say "my sister" Cathy well I have been blessed to have them both by my side through times when no one else could have done the job. Going through the motions and being by their (the Abbeys) side ever since this idea began of another reunion dance, it has been a tremendous and exciting ride. Watching the pride in Sammy's son Ryan as he put together these CD's of the Abbey music, it was a time that I will never forget. When Ryan & Kristy got to the hall Saturday June 3 @ 3:00 finally (while Cathy & I were going crazy) wondering if there were going to be CD's or not, When Ryan opened his door on Cathy's van where all the seats had been taken out of, and Ryan was holding the three versions his smile and the love in his eyes told the whole story and when he handed these CD's to his Dad Sammy well nothing can ever replace that moment. Being part of this Abbey family, listening to all their practices, dancing like a fool in Sammy's & Cathy's kitchen on a Friday night at 2:00 AM in the morning to abbey music. You just can't help it. The music of these 7 originals bring back so many memories, so many fun times, so many times when we couldnt wait for the weekends, especially thursday's at the stallion. This music will NEVER DIE. I thank you guys for bringing back the best times in my life. Saturday at Kosciusko was so undescribeable. Seeing all the old Abbey friends, dancing like crazy fools and not caring how we wouldnt be able to move the next morning. MAN I CANT WAIT FOR ST HEDWIG. LOVE TO ALL THE ABBEY OF SOUTH TEXAS.

Kristy Morales (Sammy's Daughter)
Monday, June 5, 2006 @ 7:06 am

I wanted to say Thank you to my brother, Ryan Morales, who has put his life on hold to create this website and cd's to be sold on June 3rd! Your hard work and dedication has paid off and I am so proud that you are my brother. I love you! To my dad, Sammy, you blow me away, you are my hero! I love you Dad! And to the Abbey Band and Fans, you guys ROCK!!!! See you in St. Hedwig!

Hi to all the guys, but especially to my wonderful cousins, Rick & Denis. I took my new husband to the reunion dance tonight. He's not much of a dancer, but he enjoyed seeing how we grew up around Koscuisko, etc. I wish we could have visited more. Hope you keep the music alive! Love, Mary Ann (Kotara) and Gary Schirmer. P.S. Our 2nd wedding anniversary will be June 19th.

Excellent website. Well done. Reading of the news that the band is getting together again brought back alot of memories for me as a kid. Pop (John Morales), older brother of bandmember Sam Morales, used to take us on trips to Karnes County from San Antonio to visit family down there and see the band perform. Even now I can recall the band covering the top hits of the day. As is included in this website the band covered such great classics as Bad Company's "Movin 'On" and Thin Lizzy's "Boys are back in town". It'll be great when the sounds of the The Abbey are heard resonating across the fields of South Texas once again. Rock on guys!!
